Kitchen Diner Conversion with Load-Bearing Wall Removal
This kitchen remodel in St Neots turned a separate kitchen and dining room into a single, open plan kitchen diner for a local family. The owners wanted one connected space that worked better for family life and gave easier access to the garden, so the project went well beyond new units and finishes.
Knocking through to make one kitchen diner
The key change was removing a load bearing wall between the kitchen and the dining room to open the two rooms into one. Taking out a structural wall is not a simple knock through, so we managed the beam work and support properly as part of the remodel.
To improve the layout further, we blocked up one back door and one internal door, which freed up usable wall space and let the room flow the way the owners wanted.
We also added french doors to give better access to the garden and bring more light into the new kitchen diner. Every stage was completed by us from start to finish, which kept the structural work, the layout changes and the finishing all under one roof.
The finished open plan kitchen diner
The home in St Neots now has a bright, open plan kitchen diner in place of two separate, smaller rooms.
With the load bearing wall removed and the doorways reworked, the space feels larger and far more sociable, and the new french doors connect the kitchen to the garden. Handled correctly, one structural change transformed how the family uses the ground floor.
