Garage Conversion to Shower Room and Utility Room in Grafham
Over the winter of 2025 into early 2026 we carried out a garage conversion for a family in Grafham, Cambridgeshire who wanted to turn unused garage space into practical rooms the whole household would use every day. The brief was to convert half of a double garage into a ground floor shower room and a new utility room, and to bring both spaces properly into the house.
How we converted half the garage
The starting point was a double garage that sat apart from the living space, so the first job was to make the new rooms feel like part of the home rather than a converted outbuilding. We extended the hallway to connect the house and the garage, which meant the finished shower room and utility opened off the main house instead of the garage.
From there we handled every stage ourselves, from the drainage runs for the new ground floor shower room through to the final coats of paint.
Converting half of a double garage this way suits a growing family, because it adds a downstairs bathroom and a dedicated laundry area without losing all of the parking or storage. As with all of our work, the conversion was signed off by building control.
The finished shower room and utility in Grafham
The family in Grafham now have a warm, fully functioning ground floor shower room and a separate utility room that connect straight to the rest of the house through the extended hallway. The new shower room is finished to the same standard as the rest of the home, with proper drainage, insulation and ventilation, and the whole project was completed and certified without the owners having to coordinate separate trades.
